Ed Baird

Baird, Ed – Surrounded by his loved ones, Ed passed peacefully at Kingston General Hospital on July 1, 2024. Donald Edward “Ed” Baird, in his 89th year. He was the beloved husband of Shirley Hickey and the late Karen Head. Ed will be missed by his children Laurie Gregoire (Richard) and Charlene Barker (Danny); and by his stepchildren Gary Hickey (Tina), Dean Hickey (Violet), and Darrell Hickey. He remained a loving brother to John Baird (Shirley). Ed was predeceased by his sons Mike and Greg Baird, and granddaughter Candus Babcock; and also by his parents Clarence and Marjorie (Huyck) Baird and his sister and brother Barbara McKeown and Ken Baird. He was a proud Grandpa to seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Ed was a long time small business owner in South and Central Frontenac and had a friendly and outgoing personality with an infectious laugh. He was also known to many for his superior mechanical skills. He had a solid yet lighthearted presence and touched so many, including his extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as numerous friends, former coworkers, and fellow local businessmen. Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 from 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm at TROUSDALE FUNERAL HOME (4374 Mill Street, Sydenham, ON). A funeral mass will take place on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 12:30 pm at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH (3977 Sydenham Road, Sydenham (Railton), ON) with Interment to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Ed spent his final few months at Trillium Court Long Term Care, and the family wishes to thank all the wonderful staff there for their care and compassion.  Also, a heartfelt appreciation goes out to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Kingston General Hospital Emergency Department for their hard work, understanding, and compassion during Ed’s final stay.
