Gary Bullock Obituary

Gary Bullock, in his 80th year, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side after a brief illness.

Gary was born March 5th, 1943, to Edna and Earl (Buster) Bullock of Kingston.  Gary moved to Harrowsmith in his early 20’s to pursue a life of farming.  Shortly there after he met his best friend and love of his life Gertrude Groenewegen.  Together, they operated a successful dairy farm for thirty years.  During this time, they raised twin daughters Ellen Mulville (Brad) and Elaine Gemmill (Chris Nicholson). In 2000, Gary retired from milking cows, and he and Gert took on new endeavours farming beef and sheep and helping raise their grandchildren.

Gary had a sense of humour, a dry sarcastic wit, and was a teller of many stories.  In later years, as the farm animals slowly dwindled, Gary enjoyed hunting with Phil Leonard and the “boys” at the deer camp and with Dave Mayell shooting ducks and sharing drinks at camp six.  Duck hunting and deer hunting tales were always shared with vivid smiles. Many weekends were spent at the Kingston Trap and Skeet Club where he made everlasting friendships.   Gary looked forward to the winter months spending time outside cutting and splitting wood with Dale Hicks.  As Gary aged, these men shifted to drinking coffee in the garage and sharing the “local news”.

After Gert’s passing in 2019, Gary was blessed to live the rest of his life on the farm.  This was possible because of his special friend and sister-in-law Mary Groenewegen.

Gary leaves a legacy of memories for his grandchildren- Darcie & Reanna Mulville, Andy & Tori Gemmill, Branden & Samantha Nicholson.  Suppers will never be the same without the teasing and joking from “pa”.

Gary is survived by many sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and nieces and nephews, who continue to be ongoing supports to “his girls”.

Gary’s family wishes to extend sincere gratitude and deepest thanks to Kingston Health Sciences (Emergency Dept, Connell 10, Davies 4, and Connell 9) for their professional and compassionate care.  Special thank you to Dr. Stuart Reid, for his unwavering commitment and kindness throughout Gary’s journey.

There will be visitation Sunday, May 8, 2022 from 3-5pm, and 6-8pm, at the Trousdale Funeral Home, Sydenham, Ontario.  A funeral service will be held Monday May 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trousdale Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Harrowsmith Cemetery.

For anyone who wishes to make a donations in the memory of Gary, we kindly ask it be made to The Salvation Army or local Food Bank.
