Lauraine Bell Obituary

Born March 25, 1937, LAURAINE MAXINE ANITA (BRIGHT) BELL of Kepler and (since early 2023 Rosewood Retirement Residence), passed peacefully into her Lord's presence on May 2, 2024.

Wife of Francis Bell, youngest daughter of Kenneth Ray and Charlotte (aka Lottie) Bright of Campbellford, sister of Morley (Eleanor), Clinton (Donna), Eugene (Marian), Arlie (Gerald) Haggarty, Iona Bartlow, all deceased; Joyce (and the late Percy) Latchford, Lyle (and the late Marie) Bright. Sister-in-law to Betty Hamm, Leigh Bartlow, Barb Bright, the late Marvin Bell (Peggy), Jean Bell, Morris (Anna) Bell. Mother of Les (Joanne) Bell and Marilyne (Kian) McCaldon.  Grandmother of Geoffrey (Nicole) Bell, and Alexander (Bethany) McCaldon. GG to Hannah.  Aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Lauraine was a dedicated participant in 4H in early years, and put those skills to work as wife and mother, making a comfortable home while farming. A graduate of Peterborough Teacher's College, she taught for over a decade before giving it up to farm and volunteer in various capacities in her church, Trinity United in Elginburg.  Both at Teacher's College and in the church she made life-long friends. Lauraine excelled at many hand crafts, but focused on sewing, for years making all her own clothes and items for the home before turning attention to the meticulous art of quilting and piecing quilts. She also enjoyed televised NHL games, gardening, canning and preserving, baking, reading, making and serving a “substantial” meal, and participating in the UCW and the church quilting groups.

Thank you to the neighbours who helped her stay at home as long as she did, to Trish and the staff of Rosewood, to Sharry and Ben for Tigger-house-and-yard care, to the staff at KGH and the palliative team at Rosewood in her final days. Thank you to the friends and family who prayed, called, sent cards, and visited so regularly.

A private burial has taken place, with a service to be held at a later date.

In memory of Lauraine, the family encourages donations to Trinity United Church at Elginburg, or  Kingston General Hospital.

Lauraine rests in care of Trousdale Funeral Home, Sydenham, Ontario; trousdalefuneralhome.com
